Report on CAIOS in the New Hampshire Orchid Show -- from Eleanor Phillips
An intrepid team of four CAIOS members ventured to
Nashua, NH to set up the CAIOS display for the New Hampshire Orchid
Society show the weekend of February 16-19. We had 50 square feet to
fill with lovely orchids for a "Winter Wonderland" display. And fill
it we did, with plants donated by Mike Lincoln, Milton Brown, Eleanor
Phillips, Ron Stewart, Monika and Bill Wildman, Tina Balog, and many
many plants from Tom Gregg's bountiful greenhouse. We won some
notable awards: First place for our display of orchids in the snow,
Tina Balog won a trophy for Best Orchid Grown on Windowsill or Under
Lights for a cute blushing (white with pink blush) Dtps. Brother Little
Hatter, and Monika Wildman won a Best Cymbidium trophy for her
"miniature" Cym. Laura Elf, with more than 200 yellow-gold blossoms on
6 spikes, all about 2 feet tall. We won lots of other ribbons -- Tom
Gregg won 18 all by himself.
Many thanks to all who donated plants, and to Tina, who donated props
including a charming stuffed husky to pull a miniature dog sled through
our snowy scene. Especial thanks to display helpers Tom Gregg -
provider of many plants, Bill Wildman -- collected plants from other
members, Eleanor Mis -- created plant labels and cut cloth to wrap
pots, while yours truly provided the display plan and basic materials,
and all of us spent a fun Thursday setting up our display.
