The 23rd Annual CAIOS Orchid Show
Special thanks to everyone who made this year's show such a great success. Without your dedicated efforts, the Orchid show would not be possible.
The teaming of hand thrown pottery from local artist Kim Barry of Clay Trout Pottery, and the magnificent orchids grown by CAIOS members, created a perfect blend of art and color.
Attendees stopped to say, "This was the best show ever!"
Our speaker on February 12th, will be Thomas Mirenda, discussing the Smithsonian Orchid Collection. Included in his talk, we expect to hear a survey of the history of the Smithsonian orchid collection, who started it, how it flourished, its ups and downs, exhibition plans and goals for the future.
Tom is in his 10th year as the Museum Specialist for the Orchid Collection at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. The Smithsonian collection is an extremely diverse assemblage of species and hybrids from all over the world.
An orchid grower since childhood, Tom’s interest in orchids has influenced him to travel extensively through Latin America. He is an expert on the orchids of Costa Rica and Panama.
