We here at Odom’s Orchids, Inc., would like to welcome you to join us for our very special 7th Annual Cattleya Symposium! The check-in date for the hotels is Thursday August 3rd, starting at 3pm. The Symposium will be held on Friday August 4th and Saturday August 5th at the Indian River Research and Education Center in Fort Pierce, Florida from 8 am – 5pm.
Our event will include an amazing lineup of eight speakers who will take us through the history of this very royal family of orchids. This year’s lineup will include:
The cost of the symposium is $175.00 per person. Due to the limited seating capacity, we have enough openings for only 140 people so make sure you don’t miss the deadline to sign-up. We need everyone registered by July 20th in order to have everything prepared in a timely fashion for each attendee. We also have made arrangements for special pricing at the Hampton Inn. Below is the hotel information and IFAS building location.
The Hampton Inn & Suiteswill be our host for this year’s symposium. They have agreed to give us a rate of $70 for double queens and $90 for king suites available on request. They have guaranteed to hold 60 rooms for us under Odom’s Orchids until July 21st (2 weeks before the check-in date, August 3rd). So the quicker you have signed up, the more likely you will be guaranteed a spot in the host hotel. Group code: Orchid Symposium
The IFAS center has been kind enough let us host our symposiums with them every year. As some of our previous attendees know, there are some things we cannot control such as the temperature. It has been known to be on the colder side in the building so please bring a sweater or jacket just in case. Also, we have no control over the overhead emergency lights – we cannot dim them.
As a reminder, particularly for all of our new people, we will be providing lunch for everyone on Friday and Saturday. There will be an auction Friday night and we would like everyone to meet at the Hampton Inn lobby Thursday evening at 5:30 for a pizza party. This will give us a chance to pass out name tags early as well as an opportunity for everyone to meet one another.
A final schedule will be provided in everyone’s books which will be received in-person at the Hampton Inn Thursday evening.

American Orchid Society provides judging to New England, New York and Northern New Jersey.
The Northeast Judging Center of the American Orchid Society sponsors 2 monthly judging events at the following venues:
1) First Saturday of the month - Tower Hill Botanic Garden, Boylston MA
2) Third Saturday of the month - Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens, Stamford, CT
On these days, each site holds educational forums and discussions in the morning beginning at 10:30 on a wide range of topics related to orchid judging. Plants being submitted for judging should arrive no later than noon that day; actual judging of plants begins after a lunch break, generally no later than 1 PM.
In addition to our monthly judging, we participate in a number of orchid shows throughout the center, providing AOS judging as well has taking part in ribbon and trophy judging at the show.
Finally, we have many knowledgeable and helpful individuals in the center who can speak on a wide variety of topics related to orchids and judging. We encourage all of the orchid societies in our region to utilize this resource.
